News Release

The Rec & Ride Summer Youth Pass returns and provides kids a way to stay busy, social and active all summer long. This highly discounted pass includes access to local transit and Parkinson Recreation Centre services throughout July and August for youth in our community aged 18 and under. Passes are $20 for children up to age 12 and $50 for youth ages 13-18.

“We are thrilled to once again offer this pass to help inspire kids to get active with us while they’re out of school for the summer, along with the ride to get here via BC Transit,” says Lisa Ruether, Recreation Services Supervisor. “We invite kids and families in our community to take advantage of the pass and join us at Parkinson Recreation Centre for a swim, workout or drop in to play sports in the gym.”

With the pass, youth will be able to ride anywhere within Kelowna on the bus throughout July and August. Kids 12 and under already ride the bus for free.

“Partnering with BC Transit makes this an invaluable pass for youth in our community,” says Mike Kittmer, City Transit and Programs Manager. “Even when not traveling to and from Parkinson Recreation Centre, being able to jump on a bus gives youth the freedom to better connect with friends, family and their favourite activities all summer long.”

Passes can be purchased in-person at Parkinson Recreation Centre (1800 Parkinson Way) starting today (June 18) and will be valid from June 27 until September 1, 2025. Pass holders must be present at time of purchase to have their photo taken for the pass, and identification is required for children aged 13 and up, including school ID or driver’s license. A separate BC Transit Umo pass will be provided at time of purchase for transit use or can be added to an Umo account via the app. Adults accompanying a youth with a Rec & Ride pass will be offered a $2 drop-in fee to encourage families to participate together.
