Social media posting guidelines

Comments posted to our social media channels will be monitored. We reserve the right to remove inappropriate comments, including those that contain obscene language (including acronyms) or sexual content, promote hatred, threaten or defame any person or organization, violate the legal ownership interest of another party, support or oppose political candidates or ballot propositions, promote illegal activity, are spamming (including posting the same comment on multiple posts), promote commercial services or products, or are not topically related to the subject of the forum or a particular posting.

The purposes of this policy include preventing harassment, bullying and discrimination; limiting public exposure to profanity and obscenities; ensuring a safe workplace for City employees, both physically and mentally; preventing the inappropriate use of City resources for unlawful, criminal or private commercial enterprises; and ensuring that the conversation on these channels, where people come specifically to discuss City issues, is topical to those issues.

You participate at your own risk, taking personal responsibility for your comments, your username and any information provided. We also reserve the right to ban individuals who consistently post messages that do not meet our guidelines.

Social media hours of operation

We are active on social media during regular City operating hours: 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday to Friday (excluding holidays). In this sense, our social media is “open” during operating hours and “closed” in off-hours. We may activate our channels during closed hours in the case of an emergency or crisis.
