Highlights of May 5 Council meeting
Southwest Mission townhomes
Council OK’d a development permit for a 39-unit, three-storey townhouse development at 5020 Killdeer Rd, at the corner of Killdeer and Frost Rd. The property contains one single detached home, which would be demolished for the proposed townhouse development. The proposal was forwarded to the June 17, 2025 public hearing.
Sani-dump facility
Council agreed to explore the need for a City-owned RV sani-dump facility as part of 2026 budget discussions. There are no City-owned RV sani-dump facilities currently, with only one privately operated facility available in Kelowna.
City procurement policy
Council supported continuing with the existing bylaw and corporate procurement policy, which effectively supports local and Canadian businesses by sourcing most purchases from within Canada and Kelowna-based suppliers. Staff recommended maintaining the existing policy, which emphasizes value to taxpayers, sustainability, and compliance with trade agreements. They noted that excluding U.S. suppliers could lead to higher costs, limited access to specialized goods, and potential legal issues. Council asked that to update the policy with the following wording - “Preference to award procurements to Canadian companies when all other evaluating criteria are equal.”
