Highlights of May 26 Council meeting
New Glenmore protective services campus
Council supported proposed Official Community Plan and Zoning Bylaw amendments for a new Glenmore Protective Services Campus at the corner of John Hindle Dr and Packinghouse Rd. This will allow for construction of a new firehall, training centre, and potentially other facilities, prioritizing public health and safety. This will replace the Glenmore Firehall Station #5 at 550 Valley Road N. The proposal will be forwarded to the June 17 public hearing.
Seniors apartment housing
Council authorized the issuance of a development permit for a six-storey seniors' apartment at 728 Valley R. The building will feature 168 units, including a mix of studios, 1-bedroom, and 2- bedroom apartments, and will offer concierge services, security, amenity programming, housekeeping, dining, home care, and transportation services.
Pandosy rental apartment
A second development permit was authorized for issuance for a four-storey apartment building at 459 Osprey Ave. The 56 units will include 14 two-bedroom with dens, 36 one-bedroom units, and six studio units.
Heritage conservation area guidelines
Council supported proposed updates to the Heritage Conservation Area (HCA) - Conservation and Development Guidelines to better align with provincial housing legislation and balance heritage preservation with increased housing density, particularly in the Abbott and Marshall Street HCAs. The proposed guidelines will be forwarded to the June 17 public hearing.
Civic assets naming policy
Council OK’d a new policy to guide the naming of all new civic assets, replacing previous policies related to park and facility naming. This new policy emphasizes inclusivity, cultural recognition, and alignment with community values, incorporating input from Indigenous communities, cultural organizations, and public feedback.
