Construction begins on the new Parkinson Recreation Centre
The City of Kelowna is thrilled to start construction on the new Parkinson Recreation Centre. As the construction process has begun, equipment and workers are on site, which may cause impacts on or near the site. The existing PRC remains open and accessible during construction of the new facility.
What to Expect
- The Apple Bowl is open for use; however, access from Burtch Road will be restricted and the Apple Bowl parking lot off Burtch Road will be out of service.
- The parking lot off Spall Road in the NE corner of Parkinson Recreation Park (closest to the tennis courts) will be maintained but slightly reduced. If you are planning to use or visit the Apple Bowl this is the recommended parking lot to use.
- Angel Way pathway will remain open; however, some disruptions and occasional closures may occur.
- The Basil Meikle tennis courts at Parkinson Recreation Park will be out of service. Alternative tennis court information can be found by visiting the beaches & parks map and selecting tennis courts under the choices tab.
- The City of Kelowna has a tennis strategy that considers the growth of tennis in our community and the local court inventory. Future planned courts include: four courts at the Redeveloped Parkinson Recreation Park, three courts at the Glenmore Recreation Park, and five courts at the Mission Recreation Park. Once complete, a gain of six additional tennis courts will be available for users.
- The lacrosse box (multi-use court) at Parkinson Recreation Park will be out of service. Alternative multi-use court information can be found by visiting the beaches & parks map and selecting multi-court under the choices tab.
- The cricket batting cage at Parkinson Recreation Park will be closed at the end of May. Construction of a new cricket pitch in Glenmore Recreation Park is underway, and once completed will be operational as soon as possible to accommodate Kelowna cricket players.
- The areas south of Mill Creek including the current PRC and PAC parking lot and the pickleball courts will remain open for use and unaffected at this time.
The City of Kelowna appreciates your patience during these upgrades and apologizes for any inconvenience. The Redeveloped Parkinson Recreation Centre will be complete in Q4 2027 with demolition of the existing PRC and the completion of the courts to be completed in 2028.
