Upgrades to the Rutland Transit Exchange start soon

May 23, 2025

Starting next week, work will begin on upgrades to the Rutland Transit Exchange that will better connect transit riders to destinations throughout the region and facilitate service growth into the future. The project is expected to be complete by October, 2025.

Upgrades to the exchange include:

  • Two concrete bus bays;
  • Park-and-ride area;
  • Bike parking;
  • Utility works that include updated street lighting and underground servicing;
  • Paved sidewalks, crosswalks, pavement markings and wayfinding signage to assist pedestrians, cyclists and transit customers in and around the exchange;
  • An operator washroom facility; and
  • 14 new trees.

Some construction impacts are to be expected. Please abide by safety personnel instructions, posted construction signage and fencing to ensure everyone’s safety while commuting through the area. The City of Kelowna and onsite crews appreciate your patience during construction and apologize in advance for any inconvenience.

The Rutland Exchange is part of the Kelowna Exchanges Project developed in partnership between BC Transit and the City of Kelowna. The projects received $9.2 million to provide significant transit upgrades that will better serve the city with affordable, efficient, and reliable transportation. Other exchanges to receive upgrades as part of this funding are the Okanagan College Transit Exchange and the Mission Recreation Transit Exchange. Funding partners include the Government of Canada, through the Public Transit Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, the Province of British Columbia and the City of Kelowna.
