Expanded tennis programming and covered winter courts coming to Kelowna

June 12, 2025

News Release

The City of Kelowna has partnered with Tennis Clubs of Canada (TCC) to bring a new winter tennis facility in Mission Recreation Park and more recreational tennis programs in various neighbourhoods around the city.

The City aims to create vibrant neighborhoods through accessible and inclusive programming. The partnership with Tennis Clubs of Canada will involve offering city-wide tennis lessons and summer camps, with TCC delivering these programs on behalf of the City. Lessons will offer a mix of beginner, intermediate and performance-based programs at various locations. Programming will be planned to ensure public access to tennis courts is maintained.

“We are thrilled to partner with Tennis Clubs of Canada to bring this new facility to Mission Recreation Park, and offer expanded recreational programming,” said Mayor Dyas. “Access to lessons and a new state-of-the-art facility will provide fantastic opportunities for residents of all ages and skill levels to engage in healthy, active lifestyles year-round.”

The new facility will be built in the southeast corner of Mission Recreation Park and will feature five competition-standard courts with removable lounge/administration area. A multi-layered opaque dome membrane will be put up during the winter season (October 1 to April 30) and will be taken down and stored offsite during the summer season (May 1 to September 30).

The facility is anticipated  to be open November 2025 and operated by Tennis Clubs of Canada. When the facility is covered by the removable dome during the winter season, TCC will run a diverse range of high-quality club and instructional programs for paying members and non-members. When the dome is not in place during the summer season, the courts will be available for free public use.

“Kelowna loves its tennis and we are excited to be partnering with the City of Kelowna to bring this year-round facility to the community,” says Adam Seigel, Tennis Clubs of Canada CEO. “We look forward to players of all ages and abilities discovering this amazing sport as we work towards our goal of creating players for life.”

The $2.9 million project will be built and financed through a partnership between the City and Tennis Clubs of Canada. The City's contribution will be funded through City reserve and is estimated at $650,000, pending confirmation on construction-based costs. An additional $200,000 will be funded from Tennis Canada and Rogers as part of the Year-Round Community Tennis Courts Program.
