Clement Avenue Extension will create a new way to move through Midtown
A new road to improve connectivity through Kelowna’s congested Midtown Urban Centre is being developed, and residents are invited to provide input on the design and alignment. The Clement Avenue Extension between Spall Road and Highway 33 will create a new east-west corridor linking Downtown, Midtown, and neighborhoods to the north and east. This extension aims to increase traffic capacity in this busy part of the city’s road network. The preliminary design work underway will also include considerations for multi-modal enhancements to the Okanagan Rail Trail. The current preliminary design phase is being delivered with a funding contribution from the Ministry of Transportation and Transit.
“The city’s road network in Midtown is constrained by Dilworth Mountain and Mission Creek,” says Gordon Foy, Transportation Manager, City of Kelowna. “Traffic between the east and west sides of the city, as well as regional highway traffic, is limited to three routes, Enterprise Way, Harvey Ave / Highway 97, and Springfield Rd. The Clement Avenue Extension will create a new way to pass through Midtown, increasing the road network’s capacity and redundancy during busy peak periods.”
Residents are encouraged to provide their priorities for the roadway by participating in an online survey. Input will help inform the preliminary design of Clement Avenue Extension, intersections with crossing streets and how to accommodate and prioritize the Okanagan Rail Trail Active Transportation Corridor.
