Share your input on future activity centres for all ages in Glenmore & Mission

The opportunity to share input for two new activity centres for all ages in the Mission and Glenmore neighbourhoods is now open. As part of plans to build a stronger Kelowna, new activity centres will be built in Kelowna’s Glenmore and Mission Recreation Parks. Community engagement on these future facilities is open until Sunday, December 10, with opportunities to share priorities and what kind of space residents see themselves using within a new activity centre.
"Understanding what matters at a neighbourhood level is a vital step in planning and developing infrastructure to best support those who will use it most,” says Robert Parlane, Parks & Building Planning Manager for the City of Kelowna. “By engaging with residents within their neighbourhoods and taking into account their needs and hopes for these spaces, we can create facilities that bring communities together and enhance overall quality of life."
Participants can visit getinvolved.kelowna.ca/activefacilities and choose an activity centre to engage on. Input opportunities include prioritizing the types of space residents most see themselves using within a neighbourhood-based activity centre and sharing what they love most about the Glenmore and Mission neighbourhoods where the facilities will be built.
Residents are also invited to attend one of two drop-in information sessions to share input, complete the survey and connect with the project team.
• Glenmore-focused Information Session: Wednesday, November 29, 3:30 – 6 p.m., Green Gables Daycare* (228 Valley Road)
• Mission-focused Information Session: Thursday, November 30, 3:30 – 6 p.m., Capital News Centre Lobby (4105 Gordon Drive)
While there is a specific neighbourhood focus for each session, information about both activity centres will be available at each of the two sessions.
Both centres will be constructed to a maximum square footage and budget and will be designed to support foundational community needs such as social gatherings, sport, leisure, and fitness programs, events, celebrations and childcare. Public input is among several considerations that will go into finalizing functional plans for these two community activity centres. Other factors include current and future facility demand, organized user group input and internal workshops, trends and best practices, regional supply, and related engagement data, such as recent engagement through the Indoor Recreation Facilities Strategy and Glenmore Recreation Park.
