Kelowna is growing, and with growth comes the need for smarter, safer ways to get around.
The City is celebrating two major milestones in its transportation network: the opening of the Chute Lake Road roundabout in the Southwest Mission and the Kane and Valley Road roundabout in Glenmore.
“These projects are more than just new intersections; they’re vital links that will shape how residents, visitors, and businesses move through our city for years to come,” says Brian Beach, Infrastructure Delivery Department Manager.
The Chute Lake Road roundabout, part of a $7.8 million investment, connects with the soon-to-open Frost Road extension. Together, they improve access to Gordon Drive, South Perimeter Way, and the Ponds neighbourhood, areas that are seeing rapid residential and commercial growth. Upgraded sidewalks, bike lanes, and lighting make the corridor safer for all road users, while utility improvements support long-term infrastructure needs.

Also, roundabouts aren’t just about moving traffic. They reduce severe collisions by slowing traffic and eliminating dangerous conflict points, making travel safer for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians alike.
In another area of Kelowna, the Kane and Valley Road roundabout is now open in Glenmore, following months of construction. This $1.6 million-project enhances connectivity in one of Kelowna’s busiest residential areas. Like its counterpart in the Mission, the Kane/Valley roundabout includes new lighting, bike lanes, and stormwater upgrades, ensuring the intersection can handle future growth while improving safety and efficiency today.

By replacing traditional traffic signals with a modern roundabout, the City is reducing wait times, easing congestion, and creating a smoother flow for commuters.
Both projects reflect Kelowna’s commitment to building a connected, sustainable city. As Mayor Tom Dyas noted, “Kelowna is one of the fastest-growing cities in Canada, and we’re planning for that growth with smart infrastructure investments that make it easier and safer for residents to get around.”
