Summer in Kelowna: celebration, connection, community

Summer has arrived in Kelowna, and with it comes a season filled with joy, energy and community pride.
Across the city, residents and visitors are finding new reasons to get outside, explore their neighbourhoods and enjoy the places and experiences that make Kelowna special.

From community events to recreation programs, parks and active transportation options, summer in Kelowna is about more than having fun, it’s about creating opportunities that deliver on many of the goals laid in our Imagine Kelowna community vision, like: creating great public spaces, cultivating an engaging arts and culture scene, making sure people have choices for how they get around, and providing opportunities for all to participate in community life.

As Kelowna grows, so do opportunities for connection and celebration - and this summer is packed with opportunities for residents of all ages to get involved.

A city buzzing with activity

Residents can enjoy free City programs such as Dancing in the Park, Sunset Yoga, and Roller Night – as well as activities offered through Strong Neighbourhoods, like Park & Play, Connections Over Coffee and Neighbourhood Pulse Pop-Ups taking place across town.

For children and youth, affordable recreation programming, like summer camps and Rec & Ride, are helping young people stay engaged, active and connected during their break from school.

Meanwhile, signature events and festivals continue to bring thousands of people together throughout the season while generating millions of dollars in economic activity.

Vibrant places that bring people together

Public spaces play an important role in shaping the summer experience.

This year, Kelowna's new Signature Sign near Stuart Park has created another destination along the waterfront where residents and visitors can gather, take photos and celebrate their connection to the city. The sign joins a growing network of public spaces designed to encourage interaction, create memorable experiences and support vibrancy in the heart of the community.

Meet Me on Bernard continues to provide opportunities for people to stroll, shop, dine, play and gather Downtown in a pedestrian-friendly environment with interactive games and extended patios, while over 200 City beaches and parks remain popular destinations throughout the season.

Investments in parks and animated public spaces help create the atmosphere that many residents associate with a Kelowna summer: lively, active, and welcoming.

Supporting a safe and enjoyable summer

For our public spaces to be vibrant, they also have to feel safe.

That’s why the City's Bike Valet program has returned to Downtown his summer, seven days a week. The free service gives cyclists a safe and convenient place to park their bikes while enjoying shops, restaurants, festivals and waterfront attractions. The program has grown significantly since launching in 2023, with more than 6,000 bikes and scooters parked during the 2025 season.

Bike Valet is part of broader efforts to support community safety while encouraging active transportation. Staff at the site can also help residents register bikes through Project 529 and learn about additional bike security resources available throughout the city.

Across Kelowna, protective services teams, community patrols, bylaw officers and RCMP members also increase their visibility during the busy summer months. Additional patrols, community safety initiatives and partnerships help support safe, enjoyable experiences for residents and visitors attending events and enjoying public spaces.

Importantly, however, programs and events that allow people stay active, get to know their neighbours, and develop a sense of belonging all help prevent social issues and support individual and collective wellness – which contributes to a safer community overall.

A season to celebrate

Summer in Kelowna is about so much more than events themselves.It’s about conversations that happen in neighbourhood parks, making memories at community celebrations and the sense of pride that comes from seeing public spaces filled with activity.

As the season continues, residents will find countless opportunities to discover something new, spend time with neighbours, friends and family – and experience the excitement that can be found across every corner of the city firsthand.
