Sister cities

Kelowna enjoys two sister city relationships; with Kasugai, Japan and Veendam, the Netherlands.

Kasugai, Japan

Kelowna and Kasugai have been sister cities since 1981; the arrangement has fostered a number of cultural exchanges and business ventures. The two cities also signed an Agreement on Environmental Protection in 2001.

Veendam, The Netherlands

Kelowna has enjoyed a sister city relationship with Veendam since 1980; the arrangement was originally established in recognition of the role played by Kelowna troops in the liberation of Holland in 1945. The official Sister City agreement was formally renewed in 2001.

In May 2015, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Netherlands, the Cities of Kelowna and Veendam mutually decided to bring the official Sister City relationship to a new phase.
