Inside Out

170 Rutland Rd. Mural on side of Living Faith Miracle bldg. Faces north towards Canada Post Bldg

The Work

This bright and bold stucco mural has the colours and imagery that are loosely inspired by some of Bruce’s favorite childhood cartoons. She wanted to capture a summer mood, but from inside instead of out.

The Project

The Uptown Mural Project was a community-inclusive and educative urban-art initiative within the community of Rutland, Kelowna BC, organized by Uptown Rutland Business Association. This week-long event centered around the painting large scale urban murals. Each of the mural's locations has been strategically selected creating a short walking tour within the Rutland Business Improvement Area.

The goals of this project are driven towards the beautification of Rutland, encouraging community involvement, increasing walkability within the business improvement area, and educating and inspiring youth through contemporary public art. The Uptown Mural Project is proudly supported in part with funding by the City of Kelowna

The Artist

Alit T. Bruce is a visual artist, muralist, and tattooer in Vancouver, BC. She moved to the city from a small town in Northwest Ontario over a decade ago to pursue art. After receiving a BFA from Emily Carr University, she started freelancing in art and illustration. A few years later, she studied communication design at BCIT to develop her technical skills. In the time to follow she started her first murals, learned tattooing, and continued to make visual art and branding for big and small businesses. Her work is versatile while staying recognizable. She finds inspiration from changing disciplines, experimenting with new materials, and doodling every day.
