Major events like Touchdown Kelowna do much more than entertain—they build community spirit and create shared experiences that strengthen a city.
“When communities come together around sport or local festivals, it creates a sense of energy and connection that extends far beyond the event itself,” said Doug Nicholas, Sport & Event Services Manager. “These moments bring residents and visitors together, encourage local participation and help create a positive atmosphere that feels welcoming, exciting and inclusive.”
Inclusion is a key consideration for the festival, with free Fanfest programming – like concerts, watch parties, and family-friendly gatherings - being offered from June 27-July 4 that ensure everyone has opportunities to take part in this historic celebration.
Touchdown Kelowna's three signature events are sure to bring added energy and entertainment the festival experience. And beyond the headliners, these events will shine a spotlight on the local music scene, with emerging Okanagan artists stepping onto one of the city’s biggest summer stages.
Under the Rocks will open for Alan Doyle on June 26. The Kelowna band has grown from a local act into one of Canada’s premier emerging bluegrass groups. On July 3, alt-country artist Jese Lawrence will open for The Road Hammers. Based in Kelowna, Lawrence has been building momentum with honest songwriting and a country-Americana sound shaped by his Okanagan roots.

The Flip Flop Gala features Chef Rod Butters of Okanagan Table whose menu will showcase local flavours and celebrate our region’s culinary identity, agriculture, and unique sense of place.
Bringing people together through sport becomes a powerful tool for building belonging and a sense of community pride. Touchdown Kelowna includes a number of football-focused activities presented by the BC Lions, aimed at inspiring youth, fostering teamwork, encouraging participation in sport and giving residents a chance to rally around something positive. Highlights include:
- Kids Combine: Kids Football clinic at Kelowna Secondary School, June 28
- Women’s Flag Football, for girls and women ages 12 and up, June 29
- BC Lions Watch Party at Waterfront Stage, July 4
Beside the social benefits, events like these contribute to a stronger local economy by drawing people into the community and supporting local businesses. As people attend games, concerts, watch parties and community programming, they bring activity into local restaurants, shops, hotels and public spaces. Touchdown Kelowna is expected to deliver an economic impact of $50-60 million - Year of Sport is estimated to bring upwards of $250 million.
At its heart, Touchdown Kelowna is about bringing people together. By hosting major events, Kelowna can build on its reputation as a premier host city and create lasting memories that make our city feel vibrant and united.
