Lakeshore Road improvements begin this week
Construction will begin this week to upgrade Lakeshore Road between Lanfranco Road and Richter Street, with work anticipated to be complete by late June. Starting Wednesday, April 15, the northbound parking lane and sidewalk in the project area are expected to be closed until mid-May.
Commuters can also expect intermittent traffic disruptions throughout the project. Motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians can expect delays and may wish to choose other routes when possible. Transit stops will be relocated during construction. Visit bctransit.com/kelowna for alerts and schedules.
This project will upgrade underground water and storm systems and add new bike lanes, landscaping, and road improvements to make travel safer and easier. The bike lanes on Lanfranco Road will connect with the new Lanfranco Road extension, creating a continuous route between the Casorso Road Active Transportation Corridor and the Abbott/Watt multi-use path. To support this change, 10 parking stalls will be removed from the south side of Lanfranco Road, with five stalls remaining on the north side.
These investments are part of Kelowna’s long-term plan to modernize key transportation links, increase safety for all travel modes, and ensure the network keeps pace with continued growth in the Pandosy and Lakeshore areas, helping residents and businesses benefit from improved mobility and a more welcoming, connected streetscape.
