June 18, 2025

Public Service Announcement

If you own your home and live in it as your primary residence, you could reduce your property taxes by $770 or more each year with the BC Home Owner Grant.

To qualify for the grant this year, you must:

  • Be the  registered owner  of the residence (or a spouse or relative of the deceased owner)
  • Be a  Canadian citizen  or  permanent resident  of Canada
  • Live in B.C.
  • Occupy the residence as your  principal residence
  • Have an assessed or partitioned property value of $2,175,000 or less
  • Don’t delay—claim your grant with the BC Government and pay your property taxes by July 2 to avoid late payment penalties.

    There are several ways to claim the grant:

    * Visit  www.gov.bc.ca/homeownergrant

    * Visit the  Service BC Office  at 305 - 478 Bernard Ave, Kelowna, BC V1Y 6N7

    * Call 1-888-355-2700

    Have your social insurance number and property tax notice with you during the application process.

    Provincial Program

    Since January 2021, the BC Government has taken over the administration of the Home Owner Grant, meaning municipalities—like the City of Kelowna—no longer process applications. To claim your grant, you must apply directly through the BC Government.
