Help shape a new affordable transit pass
News Release
To help shape a potential reduced-fare transit program that could complement existing fare options, residents of the Central Okanagan who believe they may benefit are encouraged to complete a brief online survey by July 15 at getinvolved.kelowna.ca.
“Enabling access to affordable transportation can help more people participate more fully in the community,” said Mike Kittmer, Transit and Programs Manager. “Residents' input will help shape a potential new fare option that supports those experiencing affordability challenges. By sharing your experiences, you’ll help ensure the program reflects real needs and lived experiences in our community.”
The City of Kelowna has worked to address financial barriers to transit through the Emergency Transit Assistance Program (ETAP). Launched in 2001 in partnership with United Way BC, the ETAP reduces transportation challenges for people in need by providing transit tickets and passes to participating agencies for distribution throughout the region.
The rising socioeconomic pressures and high demand for the ETAP highlight the need to expand support for more affordable transit solutions, filling the gap between the ETAP and regular transit fare products.
The initiative seeks to create opportunities for economic, recreational, and social participation, supporting individuals and families facing economic challenges in the Central Okanagan.
