Loseth Drive Corridor Safety Improvement Project

About the project

Safety improvements are planned along Loseth Drive to manage speeding, limited sightlines and growing traffic volumes. These roadway upgrades are designed to improve safety for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists within the constraints of the existing roadway.

Key improvements will include:

  • Narrowing travel lanes to help manage vehicle speeds
  • Improving visibility at intersections and along curves with parking restrictions
  • Updating lane and road markings
  • Adding two new marked crosswalks with flashing beacons at Feedham Avenue and Large Avenue
  • Adding a new sidewalk connection to transit and the Hwy 33 and Loseth Drive intersection
  • Adding bike lane(s) to repurpose unused space in the roadway, between Highway 33 and Henderson Dr
  • Reducing the speed limit to 40 kph within the project boundary to coincide with the changes being made

What to expect from construction

Some short-term impacts during construction are expected, such as temporary lane closures (single lane traffic) and brief traffic delays.

Why is this project needed?

Over the past two decades, Loseth Drive north of Highway 33 has seen steady growth through planned development. As new development continues to be constructed up the mountain, traffic volumes have increased, bringing with them growing concerns from residents about safety.

A recent corridor safety review identified:

  • Speeding concerns (35–49 percent of drivers exceed the posted limit in some areas)
  • Low use of on-street parking and wide travel lanes that contribute to higher speeds
  • Limited sightlines due to challenging road geometry and parking
  • An average of three collisions per year, with 38 percent resulting in injuries
  • Gaps in pedestrian and cycling connections

Improvements will help to address the above and help residents foster better feelings of safety in their neighbourhood.

Where will the work take place?

The project focuses on Loseth Dr between Highway 33 and Henderson Dr, where the impacts of increased development traffic are the greatest and existing road geometry challenges are present.

Next steps

Final design and construction timelines are being confirmed. Once available, updates will be shared on the project webpage and directly with impacted residents. For more details about the project, please see the information below.
