Multiple lane closures downtown & lower Mission this weekend for Kelowna Apple Triathlon

Traffic Advisory

The Kelowna Apple Triathlon returns this weekend, August 9 and 10, beginning and finishing in City Park. While the race route will largely use waterfront pathways and bike paths, traffic impacts downtown and along Abbott Street to Gyro Beach are expected on Saturday and throughout the Mission area on Sunday. Traffic impacts

Please see full traffic impacts at appleraceseries.com/traffic-impact-1. Traffic control personnel will be visible to direct traffic. Motorists are advised to plan their routes accordingly to avoid delays.

Parking impacts

To accommodate the event, parking lots in the downtown area will be impacted throughout the weekend:

City Park:

  • South Plaza section closed from Thursday, August 7 to Sunday, August 10
  • South parking area adjacent to sport field closed from Friday, August 8 to Sunday, August 10
  • All City Park lots closed on Saturday, August 9 until 3 p.m.

Water Street boat launch and parking lot will also be closed on Saturday, August 9 from 6 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Park impacts

The Lakefront Promenade between City Park and Waterfront Park will host the running portion of the event and will be in use from approximately 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. City Park remains open to the public during the event.

Transit impacts

To accommodate road closures, some transit impacts are expected:

  • Route 5: Gordon The bus stop at Gordon Drive & Casorso Road will be closed and a temporary bus stop will take its place on the north side of Casorso on Gordon Drive. Southbound traffic on Gordon will still be open, with delays expected due to cyclists on the road.
  • Route 15: OnDemand Riders should expect delays on Dehart Avenue due to cyclists at the intersections of Dehart and Gordon Drive. Vehicles will be signaled through by traffic controllers when there is a safe gap between cyclists.
