Highlights of October 6 Council meeting
Capri Landmark rental housing
Council supported a rezoning for 1200 Pacific Avenue to Apartment Housing Rental Only zone. The proposal is for a 157-unit apartment housing development. A separate proposed height variance seeks to increase the maximum permitted building height on the property to 20 storeys.
Climate action reporting
Council received a report outlining outcomes from Year 4 of the provincial Local Government Climate Action Program (LGCAP). The City met all current eligibility requirements for the LGCAP, securing more than $2 million in funding to support climate initiatives. In 2024, the City advanced several impactful projects, including wildfire risk reduction, electric vehicle infrastructure, and low-carbon building upgrades, while maintaining stable greenhouse gas emissions.
Transportation safety
Council received a report about the City advancing transportation safety through a data-driven, proactive approach that includes infrastructure upgrades, targeted programs, and the Safe Mobility Action Plan (SMAP). While collision rates have declined overall, pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists are disproportionately affected, reinforcing the need for continued investment in crossings, active transportation networks, and traffic calming measures.
