HIGHLIGHTS OF NOVEMBER 24 COUNCIL MEETING 

 

Housing Accelerator Fund Transit Supportive Corridor Project 

Council endorsed the Transit Supportive Corridor Pilot Project Final Plan which will pre-zone key transit routes to allow more housing in areas where transit is most accessible. Focusing growth along Transit Supportive Corridors allows the City to deliver services and infrastructure in a more cost-effective way.

 Community Safety Survey Results  

Council received a report on the 2025 Community Safety Survey. Most residents feel a strong sense of belonging and safety. Although the report indicates that many residents believe crime rates have gone up, crime reporting statistics show an eight per cent decrease in Kelowna’s overall crime rate in 2024. Read Report to Council 

Canadian Country Music Awards Week Impact 

Council received a report on the community benefits of hosting the 2025 Canadian Country Music Week in Kelowna. The event drew over 27,000 attendees, generated $11.7M in direct economic impact, boosted hotel occupancy and business revenues, and showcased Kelowna nationally through sold-out events and a televised awards show. Read Report to Council 

2026 General Local Election Voter Registration Procedure  

Council directed staff to draft an amendment to the Elector Registration Bylaw to allow for the Provincial voter list to be adopted by the City for use in the 2026 General Election. This change is designed to simplify the voting process by allowing for advance registration. Day of registration will still be available.  Read Report to Council
