City gets rolling on 2026 road renewal program

May 1, 2026

The City of Kelowna is starting its annual road renewal program this month, with work planned on 12 road segments covering approximately 9 kilometres.

“Investing in road renewal is one of the most effective ways we can maintain our infrastructure and get the most value from it over time,” said Kamil Rogowski, Senior Transportation Engineer. “By renewing roads before they fail, we can preserve our assets, reduce future costs, and keep Kelowna moving.”

The program helps extend the life of municipal roads, reduce long-term maintenance costs and provide a smoother, safer experience for people driving and cycling in Kelowna. Regular resurfacing also supports the efficient movement of goods and services throughout the city and helps prevent the need for more disruptive and costly road reconstructions in the future.

Major projects planned for this construction season include Gordon Drive, Lexington Road and the Valley-Sexsmith Corridor.

Approximately $5.2 million is being invested in pavement management this year, with most work expected to be completed before the fall. Asphalt resurfacing repairs wear and tear from traffic and weather, improves ride quality and helps maintain road safety.

Kelowna’s annual road renewal program manages more than 1,690 kilometres of municipal roads. City crews regularly monitor and test road conditions to identify and prioritize locations that require renewal. This proactive approach helps spread costs over time and avoids large‑scale road replacements.

Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians are asked to obey construction signage and traffic control personnel. Every effort will be made to minimize disruptions for road users, nearby residents and local businesses during construction.
