City Park was buzzing with excitement as residents and furry friends gathered to celebrate the grand opening of Kelowna’s newest dog run. With a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Mayor Tom Dyas and Council, the event marked a joyful milestone in transforming a lightly used corner of the park into a vibrant, inclusive space for dogs and their humans.

Despite a delay in fence delivery, the City installed a temporary fence to ensure the community could begin enjoying the space right away.
With final touches to the fence, users can benefit from the welcoming and inclusive design. The dog run features two wheelchair-accessible entrances, a wide concrete pathway for easy navigation, and additional accessible parking stalls added to the adjacent City Park lot. The area is also equipped with accessibility standard compliant gates and artificial turf to support inclusivity, offering a flat, stable surface for wheelchair users and others with mobility challenges.

The dog run is more than just a play area. It’s a thoughtfully designed space that encourages exercise, skill-building, and connection. Agility features like tunnels, ramps, balance beams, and hoops offer dogs a chance to stretch their legs and minds, while owners enjoy the scenic surroundings and new amenities.

The dog run is also connected to Kelowna’s active transportation corridor, making it easy to reach by walking, biking, or rolling.
This new amenity reflects Kelowna’s commitment to creating inclusive, sustainable, and active spaces for all residents and their furry companions.
