RCMP mid-year report

Council heard an RCMP update about crime data and public safety in Kelowna from January to June 2025. The report supports Council priorities and follows the goals in the Kelowna RCMP’s 2024–2026 Strategic Plan, Policing for Greater Impact.

North End Plan rezoning

Council supported a rezoning for 65 properties in the North End to the I1 – Business Industrial zone. The goal is to encourage a wider variety of job opportunities by allowing a mix of commercial and industrial uses. Existing businesses can continue operating under their current licences, but any new businesses will need to follow the rules of the updated I1 zone.

Veterans parking

Council did not support a staff recommendation for complimentary on-street parking for veterans and voted instead to defer further consideration of the issue to allow staff to take another look and report back with more options.

Grant application

Council approved staff applying for funding through the Province’s Strategic Priorities Fund to support two projects. One is a joint infrastructure project with the Okanagan Indian Band and the District of Lake Country to connect Commonwealth Road with Jim Bailey Road, improving emergency access, reducing traffic, and supporting water and sewer services for future development. The other is a planning project to strengthen Kelowna’s economy by improving transportation, supporting housing and employment, and preparing land for future business growth.
