The City of Kelowna is partnering with Troika Developments to deliver two new affordable housing projects for middle-income families.
These projects will be built on City-owned land in Glenmore and Rutland and will collectively create 195 new rental units, 40 per cent of units will be offered at below-market rents.
The below-market units will meet the City’s affordability standards for middle-income households, with rents capped at no more than 30 per cent of incomes between $80,000 to $120,000 per year.
“Affordable housing is a Council priority, and innovative projects like these deliver on our commitment to increase affordable housing in Kelowna,” said Mayor Dyas. “By building more homes for middle-income families, we are creating a diverse range of housing options that meet people’s needs, support our local economy, and help build a thriving community.”
These projects are part of the City’s Middle Income Housing Partnership and are partially funded through the Government of Canada’s Housing Accelerator Fund.
Construction will begin in late 2025 on the 127-unit Rutland project, located at 155-205 Dougal Road North and the 68-unit Glenmore project, located at 1232 – 1250 Glenmore Drive.
"Our team is proud to have been selected to develop these important projects,” said Renee Merrifield, CEO, Troika. “As a local company, we have a strong understanding of local needs, and we are committed to continuing to build sustainable communities that are thoughtfully designed and that grow and enhance neighbourhoods."
The City’s Middle Income Housing Partnership is part of the Housing Action Plan, which outlines a series of high impact actions designed to address Kelowna’s housing challenges, including affordability. To learn more please visit: kelowna.ca/housingactionplan.
