Public Notice Cook Road Boat Launch Update: Dredging of the Cook Rd Boat Launch is scheduled for the week of May 4, 2026 - May 8, 2026, and we anticipate the launch to be operational shortly thereafter.

Public Notice Cook Road Boat Launch Update: While progress is underway, the project has experienced delays due to the permitting process required for work in the waterway. To help minimize impacts this year, we’ve applied for a temporary permit to carry out dredging, which will allow boats to continue launching. We’re currently awaiting approval to move forward with this interim solution.

Cook Road Boat Launch Replacement:
The City of Kelowna has applied to the Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship (WLRS) and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) and Transport Canada (TC) for permits to construct a Pier / Groyne at 3786 Lakeshore Road and remove / replace the existing boat launch.

Project Scope

The works will specifically include:

  • Removal and replacement of the two existing slips of the Cook Road Boat Launch
  • Construction of a new boat launch slip
  • Construction of a groyne for sediment containment
  • Construction of a public pier over the groyne to provide public access over the groyne
  • Installation of large woody debris along the groyne and riparian planting at Truswell Park

Project benefits

In addition to updating the boat launch itself, the project will enhance fish habitat, reduce annual infilling of sand at the boat launch, and reduce the need for dredging. This will mean less disruption to fish and fish habitat on an annual basis and less impact to boaters and the public.
