Vandalism at Strathcona Beach Park playground construction site leads to temporary site closure

April 21, 2026

Strathcona Beach Park playground will remain closed until Wednesday, May 6, after vandalism damaged fencing that construction crews were installing. The fencing is part of a project to create a safer, more supportive space for neurodivergent park users.

While the playground had previously remained open evenings and weekends during the construction period, the site will now be fully closed so the project can be completed safely and without further delays.

During construction, partially completed features can be more susceptible to damage. Closing the site allows crews to protect in‑progress work and complete the project as efficiently and safely as possible.

Park visitors are asked to abide by posted construction signage and fencing to ensure everyone’s safety while visiting the area.

The City of Kelowna and onsite crews appreciate your patience during construction and apologize in advance for any inconvenience. In the meantime, explore other outdoor play options around Kelowna at kelowna.ca/parks.
