Kelowna residents can now enjoy a revitalized Summit Park, following the completion of the expanded Summit Reservoir and a redesigned park space that reflects community feedback and supports the needs of a growing city. “Our Council has made it a priority to accelerate infrastructure and invest in the places that bring our community together,” said Mayor Tom Dyas. “By combining the reservoir improvements with innovative park design, we’re reducing costs, increasing efficiency, and creating spaces that families can enjoy and create lasting memories together.”

Summit Reservoir has been expanded by 2,000 cubic metres, increasing total capacity to 3,800 cubic metres or 3.8 million litres. This was necessary to increase drinking water supply and storage for the Dilworth Mountain neighbourhood and enhance water resources for firefighting. To accommodate this infrastructure upgrade, Summit Park underwent a thoughtful redesign that integrates utility and recreation in a unique park-on-reservoir strategy. A key safety enhancement was the removal of the buried valve chamber, eliminating confined space risks for operators during reservoir cleaning and reducing both operational risk and costs.

The redesigned park features a play area on the reservoir roof, including table tennis, seating areas, and painted games such as hopscotch and tic tac toe. A new playground and embankment slide with steps offer additional opportunities for active play and family enjoyment.

This project highlights the City’s commitment to sustainable growth and infrastructure collaboration. By combining multiple initiatives, parks and utilities, the City has maximized public benefit while addressing long-term infrastructure needs.
