Kelowna Fire Department to Host Open House

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Kelowna Fire Department (KFD) will once again be hosting its popular annual Open House on Sunday, October 5th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, located in Kelowna’s downtown along Bernard Avenue (from Water Street to the Sails).
In addition to the opportunity to meet in-person with our City’s firefighting crew, this year’s free, family-friendly event will also include the Kelowna RCMP, RDCO Emergency Management & Emergency Support Services, BC Ambulance Service, Central Okanagan Search and Rescue (COSAR), City of Kelowna Bylaw Services along with event supports from Mario's Towing and Salvation Army.
The Salvation Army volunteers will be on-site serving coffee and a pancake breakfast (payable by donation), with proceeds going to the Kelowna Professional Firefighters Society (KPFCS). Other event activities will include:
* live fire safety demonstrations
* a firefighting apparatus and emergency response vehicle display
* the City’s Park and Play bouncy castle (weather permitting)
* face painting and a kids’ firefighter challenge
* visits with FireSmart mascots -- Ember and Sparky, and
* a live, high-angle rope rescue demonstration from the KFD Technical Rescue Team (10:30 a.m.)

Date: Sunday – October 5, 2024
Time: 9:00AM to 12:00 noon (Road Closure 07:30 to 2:00 PM)
Location: Bernard Avenue (between Water Street to the Sails)
During the event, there will be a partial day closure of Bernard Avenue along Water Street up to the Sails. The road will be closure will occur from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to allow for set-up and closure. Parking will not be permitted in the event area and any vehicles left there may be towed.
