Parking regulations update
Council received a report outlining proposed changes to parking requirements for new developments and directed staff to prepare bylaw amendments that would require more parking in areas with limited transit options, while allowing fewer spaces in neighbourhoods with frequent transit service. It will also include on-street parking management measures in Transit Oriented Areas.
Agricultural Advisory Committee Annual Report
Council received a report from the Agricultural Advisory Committee outlining 28 applications reviewed this term, including non-farm use and Temporary Farm Worker housing applications. Council voted to extend the committee through the remainder of the 2022–2026 term and approved updated Terms of Reference.
New hotel proposed on Highway 97
Council approved a development permit for a six-storey, 125-room hotel at 2800 Highway 97 North. The project includes a restaurant, fitness amenities, function rooms, landscaped areas, and a parkade.
Update on new all-ages Activity Centres in Glenmore, Rutland and Mission
Council received a report on the new Activity Centres in Glenmore, Rutland and Mission. A dedicated project team has been formed to oversee the bunding of design and construction of the centres.
* The Glenmore centre will feature a competition gym, childcare, and flexible spaces for arts, recreation, and community events.
* Rutland’s centre will feature a teaching kitchen, youth lounge, and multipurpose areas to celebrate cultural diversity.
* Mission’s centre will complement the existing recreation campus with open gathering spaces and programs that foster health and belonging.
All three centres are designed for multifunctionality, inclusion, and environmental responsibility.
