City facilities and services available to help you stay cool

News Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

A heat warning is currently in effect for communities across the Okanagan. Kelowna residents and visitors seeking temporary relief from extreme heat can visit a variety of locations throughout the city to stay cool.

All City facilities are available to residents and visitors during operating hours to beat the heat throughout the summer months. This includes recreation and activity centres, local libraries and public parks and beaches with shady spaces where temperatures can be lower than homes without air conditioning. View our Parks & Beaches map to find parks near you, or visit one of our three waterparks to help stay cool:

* City Park Waterpark (1600 Abbott Street)

* Ben Lee Waterpark (900 Houghton Road)

* Quilchena Splash Park (347 Quilchena Drive)

If you do not have air conditioning, you can also cool down by visiting City facilities, libraries and malls during operating hours or take indoor breaks at a local restaurant, museum, art gallery or movie theatre. To ensure transportation is not a barrier to keeping cool, Kelowna transit fares will be waived during this heat warning – just ensure to indicate to your driver that you are travelling to a place to cool down.

Strong community connections ensure greater safety for all during extreme heat events. Now is also a good time to check in on friends, neighbours and loved ones susceptible to heat, including those without air conditioning or living alone.
