OKM Senior Girls Volleyball Team
The OKM Senior Girls Volleyball Team, under the leadership of head coach Rob Steciuk, had an phenomenal year in 2024. They achieved their second Provincial AAAA Girls Volleyball Championship in three years, a significant milestone in the school's 55-year history. Their victory in the championship final was particularly remarkable, as they managed a dramatic comeback despite losing a key player. This win highlighted their resilience and determination, establishing them as a formidable force in high school volleyball across British Columbia.
Throughout the season, the team demonstrated exceptional skill and teamwork, securing four first-place finishes and one silver medal at various prestigious tournaments, including UBC, Douglas College, UBCO, and the Okanagan Valley 4A Championships. They maintained a top-four provincial ranking all season and entered the BC Championships ranked third. The team's strong sense of camaraderie and peer mentorship fostered a supportive environment, contributing to their high-level performance and making their games a joy to watch.
The team's journey to success began with their 2022 Provincial Championship win and continued with their dominance in the Okanagan Valley Championships for three consecutive years. Their historic achievements in 2024, along with numerous tournament victories, have brought immense pride to their school and inspired the local community.

About the Bryan Couling Memorial Athletic Team of the Year Award
Bryan Couling, sports director for CKIQ radio during the late 1970's and 1980's, became known as the "Voice for Sports" in Kelowna. After suffering a debilitating stroke in 1986, Bryan continued to volunteer and keep up with local sports. Bryan, a sportsman's sportsman, always recognized the effort of the athlete, along with the coaches, parents and managers.
Bryan passed away in April of 1997.
