Public Service Announcement

Residents and visitors are advised of temporary road closures and traffic disruptions in downtown Kelowna, Rutland and Sarsons Beach neighbourhood during the 2026 BC Summer Games.

Opening Ceremonies

On Thursday, July 23, Water St. (between Sunset Dr. and Prospera Place parking lot) will be temporarily closed from approximately 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. to allow over 3,000 event participants to safely cross from Prospera Place to Waterfront Park where the opening ceremonies will be held.

Transit users should expect impacts to the Water Street bus stop at Cawston Ave. during the closure. Volunteers will be on site to control anyone who was previously parked in the closure zone.

Athlete Events

Rutland Centennial Park and part of the adjacent Roxby Rd. parking lot will be closed to accommodate athlete events on Friday, July 24 and Saturday, July 25. The playground will remain open for the public to access.

BC Summer Games Triathlon

From Friday, July 24 to Sunday, July 26 the triathlon will be held at Sarsons Beach Park and surrounding neighbourhood. Motorists can expect intermittent road closures and traffic disruptions during race times. Access to neighbourhood streets will remain available when it is safe to do so, with marshals opening and closing barricades as events progress.

Road closures of the affected roads are expected during the following times:

  • Friday, July 24: 9:30 a.m. – 10:15 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. – 12:45 p.m.
  • Saturday, July 25: 10:30 a.m.– 11:45 a.m.
  • Sunday, July 26: 9:00 a.m. – 9:45 a.m.

Affected roads include:

  • Sarsons Road (from Sarsons Beach Park to Swaisland Road)
  • Swaisland Road
  • Eldorado Road (between Swaisland Road and Barkley Road)
  • Barkley Road
  • Hobson Crescent
  • Pinegrove Road
  • Walker Road
  • Lakeland Road

Sarsons Beach Park and Sarsons Activity Centre parking lots will be closed during competition periods and will reopen once racing activities have concluded each day.

Residents are asked to use caution, watch for athletes, cyclists and event volunteers, and allow extra travel time when moving through the area.
