Call for election workers: applications open

Want to see how a local election works behind the scenes? The City is hiring about 300 paid election workers to support the 2026 local election in October.

Positions are available during advance voting days on Oct. 7, 10, 14, 15 and 16, and on general voting day, Oct. 17.

While voting locations are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., election staff work full-day shifts that may start as early as 7 a.m. and end as late as 9:30 p.m. Workers are expected to remain at their assigned voting location for the duration of their shift, with scheduled breaks throughout the day.

“Working as an election official is a great way to get involved locally and gain first-hand experience with how elections work,” said Michael Jud, Kelowna’s Chief Election Officer. “We’re looking for people who enjoy connecting with others and want to support a smooth voting experience for everyone.”

The City is hiring for the following positions:

Election Official (EO)
- No prior election experience required. Duties include registering voters, issuing ballots, and helping set up and close the voting place.
- Shift: 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
- Pay: $320 per day
Alternate Presiding Election Official (APEO)
- Prior election experience required. Responsibilities include supporting election officials, registering non‑resident property electors, managing ballot accounting, directing voter flow, and assisting voters with voting machines.
- Shift: 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
- Pay: $440 per day
Presiding Election Official (PEO)
- Prior election experience required. This role oversees the voting place, including supervising staff, safeguarding ballots and voting machines, and completing the ballot account summary.
- Shift: 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
- Pay: $550 per day

All positions require attendance at a mandatory training session. A $50 training allowance applies in addition to the pay rate shown.
