18 parks projects: Coming soon, near you!
News Release
Kelowna residents can look forward to more places to play, relax and gather as the City advances 18 park projects in 2026. Four projects continue from 2025, six more will break ground this year, and the rest are moving through planning and design.
“Parks are where Kelowna comes together,” said Melanie Steppuhn, Parks Planning and Design Manager. “They support active living, connection and vibrant neighbourhoods; which is why more than $25 million has been dedicated to park improvements in the 2026 budget.”
Five park project highlights:
City Park
Work on separated pathways and improved water access began in 2025 and will continue into spring 2026. Planning is also underway for a new swim venue, with construction expected to begin this year.
Art Walk Expansion
Work will begin on the Art Walk expansion between Doyle Avenue and Queensway. The project includes a new crosswalk and other improvements at Doyle Avenue, along with expanding the Art Walk to Queensway. Construction is scheduled to start in February and be completed by June.
Glenmore Recreation Park
Construction continues through 2026. The new grass sports field is on-track to open for play this spring, with pathways, landscaping, pickleball, tennis courts and site furnishings advancing through the summer.
Aurora Park
Following resident feedback collected last year, the conceptual design for a new neighbourhood park between Aurora Crescent and Froelich Road is complete. Construction is anticipated to begin this summer.
Mission Recreation Park
Construction will start on improvements to the Mission Recreation Park, with pathways and a modular washroom installed in the southeast corner of the park, as well as pathways, plaza space and a playground. Work is expected to start in March 2026 and continue with completion in 2027.
Park-related investments this year also include maintaining essential infrastructure such as irrigation systems and renewing playground equipment; work that ensures community spaces remain safe, up-to-date and welcoming.
