Have your say in the future of three city parks
Attention, park lovers – you’re invited to share your thoughts on three park projects now until November 23. Concept designs for Casorso Park, a brand-new park, and Barlee and Walrod Parks, existing parks scheduled for improvements, are ready for public input. The City wants to hear from residents about which existing or proposed features they would like to see prioritized. "Parks are essential to the social and physical well-being of our community. These shared spaces provide opportunities for both active and passive recreation, are welcoming to people of all ages and abilities, and help strengthen our shared identity,” said Keith Pinkoski, Senior Project Landscape Architect. The City is planning, designing, and building several Urban Neighbourhood Parks together to increase efficiency in community engagement, design, and procurement. The three latest park concepts being presented are part of nine bundled projects currently being prioritized. “Through new park projects, the City is dedicated to enhancing neighbourhoods, improving accessibility, and enriching quality of life," said Pinkoski.
· Barlee Park: Barlee Park is a 0.37-hectare site that currently hosts a small playground, community garden and open lawn. The existing park will be expanded to the east side of Barlee Road, more than doubling its area.
· Casorso Park: Casorso Park will be a new 1.48 hectare (3.667 acre) community park and green space, located on a former residential parcel of land adjacent to Casorso Elementary School.
· Walrod Park: The existing 0.98-hectare neighbourhood park is currently underutilized and plans are underway to improve and expand the park. Public feedback will be considered alongside design best practices, technical analysis, financial feasibility, and existing policies and will help inform final design prior to construction.
