News Release

Mayor and Council officially cut the ribbon today to celebrate the opening of the new dog run in City Park.

“As our downtown grows, it’s essential to create spaces where people can connect, be active, and feel part of the community,” said Mayor Tom Dyas. “This new dog run transforms an underused area of City Park into a vibrant gathering place that reflects the high standards our residents expect in Kelowna’s premier waterfront park.”

The City Park Dog Run transforms a lightly used section of the park into a vibrant, activity-rich space that supports Kelowna’s dog community. The area includes agility features such as a tunnel, balance beams, agility poles, a ramp, bridge, and hoops to encourage exercise and skill-building.

Inclusivity was also a key focus in designing the dog run. The project includes:

  • Two wheelchair-accessible entrances designed to current national accessibility standards;
  • a wide concrete pathway;
  • additional accessible parking stalls added to the adjacent City Park lot.

Additionally, the dog run is connected to the active transportation corridor, making it easy to access by walking, biking or rolling.

Seventeen new trees were planted, and wood from trees removed on-site was repurposed for various features inside the dog run. The space also includes new lighting, a water fountain with a dog bowl, and two garbage containers.

This new amenity reflects the City’s commitment to creating inclusive, sustainable and active spaces for all residents, and their furry friends.
