Job Summary:
The City of Kelowna is looking for a part-time Instructor for our Licensed Care After School Programs. We are looking for a dynamic and motivated individual to join our team and work with an amazing group of kids and passionate instructors.
The After School Licensed Care Program Instructor will plan and implement quality childcare based on the philosophy and mandate set by the City of Kelowna and Licensing requirements.
This position will provide guidance, supervision, and programming that creates a safe, fun, and nurturing environment for all children.
This position reports to and works under the supervision of the Licensed Care After School Program Manager and under the direction of the Community Recreation Coordinator. It is expected that the After School Licensed Care Program Instructor will work with a small team of contract instructors, and also to the children attending the program.
Note: this is a Contract position – the selected candidate will be hired as a Recreation Instructor for the City of Kelowna. This contract is reviewed and renewed on a seasonal basis.
Work Performed:
This position will be responsible support with planning and delivering the program, collaborating with other staff, working within Licensing requirements, providing behavioural guidance, creating and implementing care plans, communicating with parents, and leading a group of children hands-on in our school-aged program (K-12Y).
Minimum Qualifications
- Up to date First Aid/CPR certificate, with Emergency Child Care portion
- 20 hours of relevant training as a Responsible Adult - You must have completed a course or combination of courses of at least 20 hours in duration in child development, guidance, health and safety, or nutrition
- Required to complete a Child Care Criminal Record Check
- Available for substitute or part time roles in afterschool care programs - longer shifts during Spring Break and Summer Camps throughout the year if interested/available.
- Must be 19 years of age or older
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous Licensed Care experience, or experience working with children
- Ability to independently lead groups of children aged 6Y-12Y
- Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal and written and oral communications skills
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
- Effective problem-solving skills and ability to exercise sound judgement
Days: Monday - Friday
Expected hours: 7 – 17.5 hours per week
- Availability from 2:00-5:30 pm
- Spring Break/Summer Camps: Various shifts between 7:30 am & 6:00 pm
Location: Afterschool care classrooms & office (Bankhead & Watson Elementary)
Wage: $19.25 per hour + 4% in lieu of benefits, holidays and vacations. Wage to be discussed based on experience.
Note: This position is eligible for ECE wage enhancement of $6.00 per hour for ECE certified applicants.

The City of Kelowna is looking for a certified volleyball instructor to teach beginner recreational adult indoor volleyball lessons for 2026. Instructors are responsible for teaching skills and how-to game play to adults of varying skills and experience. Lessons will take place over 3-5 weeks and are progressive in nature. Instructors are also responsible for maintaining a positive environment for participants, providing facility access, equipment set-up/take down, general customer service, and more.
Qualifications
- Must be certified with Volleyball Canada or equivalent
- Required to complete a Criminal Record Check
- Valid Emergency First Aid and CPR certificate
- Positive individual with good communication skills
- Ability to work independently
- Knowledge and experience of the sport of volleyball required
- Experience with teaching adult sports preferred
Wage: $24.00 per hour + 4% in lieu of benefits, holidays and vacations. Wage to be discussed based on experience.
Hours: 2-3 hours/week.

The City of Kelowna is looking for a Program Monitor for the Tennis – Register & Play program. Monitor will be responsible for ensuring programs are running smooth, maintaining a positive environment for participants, cash management, program set-up/take down, attendance tracking, etc. Monitor is encouraged to participate in play but is not required to do so.
Tennis – Register & Play program is for adults 18+ who are looking to play non-instructional, organized weekly games. Participants can register in advance or drop-in (if space is available).
Qualifications
- Required to complete a Criminal Record Check
- Positive individual with good communication skills
- Experience with adult tennis programs preferred
Programs Available:
- Tennis – Register & Play Intermediate Thursday 6 pm-7:30 p.m. Kinsmen Park
- Tennis – Register & Play Beginner Tuesday 6:30pm-8 p.m. City Park
Hours: 2.0 hours per program (1.5-hour class - additional 30 min paid set up, takedown and prep time)
Wage: $18.75 per hour + 4% in lieu of benefits, holidays and vacations.
