Job Summary:
The City of Kelowna is looking for a lead instructor for our Licensed Summer Camp programs at Bankhead Elementary and Watson Road Elementary. We are looking for a dynamic and motivated individual to join our team at Bankhead and Watson Road and work with an amazing group of kids and passionate instructors.
The Licensed Summer Camp Lead Instructor will support planning and implementation of quality child care based on the philosophy and mandate set by the City of Kelowna and Licensing requirements. This position will provide guidance, supervision, and programming that creates a safe, fun, and nurturing environment for all children.
This position reports to and works under the supervision of the Licensed Care Program Manager and the Child Care Development Coordinator. It is expected that the Licensed Summer Camp Lead Instructor will provide support to the Program Manager and support leadership to a small team of contract instructors at the Bankhead and Watson Road sites, and also to the children attending the program.
Note: this is a Contract position – the selected candidate will be hired as a Contract Instructor for the City of Kelowna. This contract is reviewed and renewed on a seasonal basis.

Work Performed:
This position will be responsible for planning and delivering the program, collaborating with other staff, working within Licensing requirements, providing behavioral guidance, creating and implementing care plans, communicating with parents, and leading a group of children hands-on in our school-aged program (K-12Y). Take on the role of manager when the manager is not on site, assist with all duties that the manager takes on and to assist with all the following:
- To plan and implement a quality School Age Group Child Care based on the philosophy and mandate set down by the City of Kelowna and based on the Child Care Facilities Licensing Requirements
- Care and guide for all children in a quality environment providing guidance, supervision, quality programming that is age related, goal oriented, and age specific meeting the developmental needs of all children
- Maintain a safe and nurturing environment where children are seen as individuals with unique potential and unique needs
- Interact with children and parents and all staff in a professional manner
- Liaison and communication source with parents
- Communicate any concerns regarding children, parents, school environment with City staff
- Care and guide for children’s behaviour
- Follow all health and safety guidelines and policies and procedures
- Provide guidance and support as well as feedback to staff regarding children’s safety, behaviour and development
- Ensuring confidentiality of children and children’s families is always maintained.
- Be aware of City of Kelowna instructor manual and Licensed Care staff manual and all of its contents, policies and procedures
- Be a positive role model for children
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be between 19 and 30 years of age (Canada Summer Job Opportunity for Youth)
- First Aid Course CPR level B or equivalent: Minimum of 8 hours and with no longer than 3 years till expiry date.
- 20 hours of relevant training as a Responsible Adult - You must have completed a course or combination of courses of at least 20 hours in duration in child development, guidance, health and safety, or nutrition.
- Required to complete a Criminal Record Check
- Available weekdays: Five 8-hour shifts during Summer Camp program hours of 7:45 am-5:30 pm running from June 30 – August 29, 2025
Days: Monday - Friday

This position will provide guidance, supervision, and programming that creates a safe, fun, and nurturing environment for all children. This position reports to and works under the supervision of the Community Recreation Coordinator for Children's programs.
It is expected that the Summer Camp Lead Instructor will provide leadership to a small team of contract instructors at the Parkinson Recreation Centre and Canyon Falls Middle School, and to the children attending the program.

Work Performed:
This position is responsible for providing supervision, instruction, and ongoing support and leadership to day camp program staff, campers, and volunteers during programs. Additionally, they will be required to assist and meet with the program coordinator in providing direction to all regular day camp staff on a regular basis. To assist with all the following:
- Help design and implement the overall camp plan with the program coordinator and recreation technician
- Design and create a safe, fun, experience rich, physically active and educational day camp experience for all campers based on past plans and implement new activities
- Ensure the health and safety of the children participating at camp
- Answer questions and provide direction of day camp staff concerning daily plans and lead positively staff by example
- Actively participate in all camp related activities (i.e., camp trips, games, crafts) if required and make sure camp staff work is equally divided.
- Work cooperatively with other staff and represent the organization positively in the community.
- Encourage camp participants to follow proper hygiene and cleanliness and monitor the overall health of the campers while at camp.
- Build positive relationships with participants and parents and/or caregivers and be the first counsellor to address any concerns of parents.
- Communicate with the program coordinator in a timely manner about any accidents, injuries or other concerns
- Interact with children and parents and all staff in a professional manner
- Liaison and communication source with parents
- Communicate any concerns regarding children, parents, school environment with City staff
- Ensuring confidentiality of children and children's families is always maintained.
- Be aware of City of Kelowna instructor manual and all of its contents, policies and procedures
- Keep current records with children's updated emergency information
- Be a positive role model for children

The City of Kelowna is looking for a sport program monitor to support indoor volleyball leagues for Winter 2025. Monitors are responsible for ensuring programs are running smooth, maintaining a positive environment for participants, providing facility access, equipment set-up/take down, general customer service and more.
Indoor volleyball leagues are for adults (18+) who are looking to compete in recreational and competitive organized leagues. Leagues run for the winter season from mid-January to mid-March in the evenings.
Qualifications

- Positive individual with good communication skills
- Ability to work independently
- Access to a vehicle
- Knowledge and experience of the game of volleyball required

Park & Play is a free community-driven event designed to inspire families to enjoy the outdoors, explore local parks and green spaces, and build neighbourhood connections. Our dedicated Park & Play team will be stationed at selected parks, offering a range of free recreational activities, including giant lawn games, relays, inflatables, soccer, catch, and leading various inclusive activities. This program, centered around recreation and fostering connections among neighbours, transforms geographical neighbourhoods into vibrant and active communities. Role Overview
Reporting to the Community Development Coordinators, Park & Play leaders will:
- Contribute to the planning, promotion and delivery of the Park & Play program.
- Lead fun, safe, accessible and inclusive recreational activities, including ball sports, relay races, lawn games, and various team and individual activities.
- Foster a welcoming and inclusive family and neighbourhood environment.
- Promote and support the active involvement of families in the program.
- Set up and take down equipment, following safety protocols and guidelines
Qualifications
- Background in recreation, community or social development, education, childcare, and/or coordinating special events is strongly recommended.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Demonstrate attention to detail.
- Capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Self-motivated with a positive attitude.
- Experience working with children and families.
- Effective problem-solving skills and ability to exercise sound judgement
- First aid and CPR certification are required or willing to obtain.
- Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check.
- Ability to lift and repetitively handle heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Comfortable assisting in moving heavier items (e.g., bouncy castle) with support from fellow staff and assistive equipment.
Full Time Position Qualifications:
- Ability to drive the City truck and trailer to and from events is essential (Training is provided). Therefore, applicants seeking a full-time position must be at least 19 years of age and possess a valid CLASS 5 Driver’s License for consideration.
- Provide a valid Drivers Abstract.
Positions Available
- 2 full time positions Monday-Friday 2pm-9pm (July 2-August 22, 2025).) with additional part time shifts in May & June (Specific times to be confirmed).
- 1-2 part time position Monday-Friday 4:30-8:30/9:00pm (July 2-August 22, 2025).) with additional part time shifts in May & June (Specific times to be confirmed).
- 1-2 casual positions covering shifts not filled by regular staff (varies).

Pay Rate
- Full-time: $23/hour
- Part-time: $20/hour
