Job Summary:
The City of Kelowna is looking for a Manager for our Licensed Care After School Program at Bankhead Elementary. We are looking for a dynamic and motivated individual to join our team at Bankhead and work with an amazing group of kids and passionate instructors.
The After School Licensed Care Program Manager will plan and implement quality childcare based on the philosophy and mandate set by the City of Kelowna and Licensing requirements. This position will provide guidance, supervision, and programming that creates a safe, fun, and nurturing environment for all children.
This position reports to and works under the supervision of the Community Recreation Coordinator. It is expected that the After School Licensed Care Program Manager will provide leadership to a small team of contract instructors at the Bankhead site, and also to the children attending the program.
Note: this is a Contract position – the selected candidate will be hired as a Contract Instructor for the City of Kelowna. This contract is reviewed and renewed on a seasonal basis.
Work Performed:
This position will be responsible for planning and delivering the program, scheduling staff, working within Licensing requirements and managing subsidy, providing behavioral guidance, creating and implementing care plans, communicating with parents, and leading a group of children hands-on in our school-aged program (K-12Y).
Minimum Qualifications:
- Up to date First Aid/CPR certificate, with Emergency Child Care portion
- 20 hours of relevant training as a Responsible Adult - You must have completed a course or combination of courses of at least 20 hours in duration in child development, guidance, health and safety, or nutrition.
- Required to complete a Criminal Record Check
- Available during required working hours for this position: Monday – Friday for afterschool care and during Spring Break and Summer Camps throughout the year.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Start July 31, 2023
- Previous Licensed Care experience, or experience working with children
- Ability to independently lead groups of children aged 6Y-12Y
- Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal and written and oral communications skills
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
- Effective problem-solving skills and ability to exercise sound judgement
Days: Monday - Friday
Hours: Summer/Spring Break camps various shifts between 7:30 am - 6:00 pm. After School: 12:00-6:00pm, plus 1-hour flexible prep/admin time (30-35 hours per week).

Wage: $21-23 per hour based on experience

Work Performed:
This position will plan and implement quality child care based on the philosophy and mandate set by the City of Kelowna and Licensing Requirements. Staff will provide guidance, supervision, and programming that creates a safe, fun, and nurturing environment for all children. This position will be responsible for independently leading a group of children in our school-aged programs (Kindergarten - 12 years old).
Take on the role of manager when the manager is not on site, assist with all duties that the manager takes on and to assist with all the following:
- To plan and implement a quality School Age Group Child Care based on the philosophy and mandate set down by the City of Kelowna and based on the Child Care Facilities Licensing Requirements
- Care and guide for all children in a quality environment providing guidance, supervision, quality programming that is age related, goal oriented, and age specific meeting the developmental needs of all children
- Maintain a safe and nurturing environment where children are seen as individuals with unique potential and unique needs
- Interact with children and parents and all staff in a professional manner
- Liaison and communication source with parents
- Communicate any concerns regarding children, parents, school environment with City staff
- Care and guide for children’s behaviour
- Follow all health and safety guidelines and policies and procedures
- Interacting with Public Health regarding licensing
- Providing nutritious snacks when necessary
- Provide guidance and support as well as feedback to staff regarding children’s safety, behaviour and development

- Be aware of City of Kelowna instructor manual and Licensed Care staff manual and all of its contents, policies and procedures
The successful candidate must meet the employee requirements listed in the Child Care Licensing Regulation (Part 3, Division 2).
The successful candidates will have a related education, with preferably 3-5 years related work experience. Demonstrated experience working with children in the 0-5 age range, 5-12 age range and experience working with adults in a facilitative role is considered an asset. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required as is the ability to be culturally sensitive, creative, collaborative, resourceful and knowledgeable of community services in Kelowna. Candidates must have: basic computer skills; a current approved first aid certificate; will be required to go through a criminal record search; supply a character references in respect of the person, copies of any diplomas, certificates or other evidence of the person's training and skills; evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control program. Candidate must be a team player and be a compatible fit to work with the Program Manager.

Minimum Qualifications
- You must be aged between 15 and 30 and be legally entitled to work in Canada. International students are not eligible.
- First Aid Course: Minimum of 8 hours and with no longer than 3 years till expiry date. With CPR level B or equivalent.
- Education and Training – Responsible adult or courses 20 hours for child development/guidance/health and safety or nutrition (or equivalent). A copy of education and training: diplomas, certificates or other evidence of training and skills. 20 hours of relevant training for employee hired as a Responsible Adult. You must have completed a course or a combination of courses of at least 20 hours in duration in child development, guidance, health and safety, or nutrition. Responsible Adult training will be provided if this requirement is not completed prior to start date.

The City of Kelowna is looking for a DJ for our Friday Night Dance. This is a program organized thorough our our Access Department for individuals with DiverseAbilities. We are looking for a committed individual who enjoys music and interacting with people.
This is not a typical DJ job and does not require any advanced skills. We are looking for somebody who can read the crowd and play appropriate music for the situation. The DJ will also be required to take requests, and speak over the microphone.
