Working the election: what to know
Be part of a 300‑strong team helping deliver Kelowna’s municipal election.
You can apply to work in the election if you:
- Are legally able to work in Canada
- Are 18 years or older
- Can attend a mandatory election training in September (date to be determined)
- Are available on General Voting Day and/or other advance voting days
- Are physically able to work the full voting day (approx. 7 a.m. - 9:30p.m. depending on position)
- Are willing and able to remain on site at the voting location at all times, from the beginning of the shift until the end of the shift
Can make a solemn declaration of impartiality and have no personal connection to any candidate
Note: You do not need to be a Canadian citizen.
Dates
- Advance voting days to be determined
- Saturday, Oct. 17 (General Voting Day)
Hours
- Voting locations are typically open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Shifts typically run from 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Hours vary by position.
- Workers must remain at their voting location for the full shift. Breaks are provided, but workers cannot leave the property to protect the security and secrecy of the vote.

Presiding Election Official (PEO)
Prior election experience is required.
Reporting to the Chief Election Officer, the PEO oversees the voting station, manages staff, and is responsible for the security and integrity of ballots and the voting machine. The PEO also prepares the ballot account summary.
- Shift: 7:00 a.m. – 9:30 p.m.
- Daily rate: to be determined*
Assistant Presiding Election Official (APEO)
Prior election experience is required.
Reporting to the PEO, the APEO supports station operations, registers non‑resident property electors, assists with ballot accounting, monitors voter lines, provides direction to voters, and offers guidance on using the voting machine.
- Shift: 7:00 a.m. – 9:30 p.m.
- Daily rate: to be determined*
Election Official (EO)
No election experience required.
Reporting to the PEO and APEO, EOs help set up the voting location, register voters, distribute ballots, support closing tasks (removing signage, moving tables/chairs), and keep the voting process running smoothly. Approximately 300 positions will be filled.
- Shift: 7:30 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.
- Daily rate: to be determined*
*Gross pay is subject to basic Canada Revenue Agency payroll deductions.
NOTE: There are no open volunteer opportunities for the election. If available, volunteer positions are filled by local high school students as part of their political science curriculum to gain experience in municipal government processes.

Deadline to apply: August 11, 2026
All election workers must attend one in‑person training session.
More information will be provided.
Because election workers must remain at the voting station all day, please bring:
- enough water and beverages for your full shift,
- food and snacks (kitchen facilities may not be available),
- comfortable, layered clothing,
- comfortable footwear, and
- any required medications.
