Apple Race Series
The Apple Race Series includes two staple sporting events in Kelowna including the Apple Triathlon and the Kelowna Marathon. Both events will return to Kelowna in 2024 after a four-year hiatus due to complications related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As part of the City’s 2024 budget deliberations, Council endorsed funding for the City to take a lead role in re-establishing and stabilizing the Apple Race Series over the next three years. The first events since 2019 will take place in summer and fall of 2024. More information about the events, including details about volunteering and how to get involved will be available here in the coming months.
The Apple Triathlon is a staple Kelowna event and top triathlon in Canada. For over 40 years, thousands of residents and visitors alike have participated and/or volunteered in this nationally-recognized event featuring a spectator-friendly course based in the heart of downtown Kelowna.
The Apple Triathlon has a race for every ability, age and experience, serving as the national championships site and hosting numerous world champions and Olympic athletes. It has been recognized as an International Triathlon Union (ITU) event since 2005 and continues to be one of Kelowna’s most successful, longest running and high-profile endurance events.
Established in 1995, the Kelowna Marathon (formerly Okanagan International Marathon) is a two-day event that features a variety of athletic activities, including a 5 km run/walk, 10 km run, 21.1 km half-marathon and a full 42.2 km marathon. Based in Kelowna’s City Park, the event is known for its iconic scenic views along Lake Okanagan and the surrounding valley and a flat, fast course certified as a Boston Marathon qualifying race. The Kelowna Marathon attracts both the elite and recreational runner and provides a festive atmosphere the whole family can enjoy.
