KATS strives to be the best locally operated triathlon in Canada, to encourage healthy and active living for people of all ages and abilities, and to foster community spirit. The Apple Triathlon is one of the most well respected and best-established athletic events in Canada. Then Mayor of Kelowna, John Hindle, initiated the first Kelowna Apple Triathlon in 1983 after attending IRONMAN Hawaii in 1982. The first (unofficial) ‘World Triathlon Championships’ was held in Kelowna in 1988. In the last 35 years, the Kelowna Apple Triathlon has become renowned across the country as a high quality, competitive, efficiently run and well-organized event.
The Kelowna Apple Triathlon includes approximately 1400 triathlon athletes, ages 6 to 80+, participating annually in both recreational and competitive stream events. The event also requires over 500 volunteers. Looking to volunteer? Sign up here!
Combined with spectators, fans, family, and friends, the event is a significant event for the community.
