Whether you're dropping kids off at school, heading to work, or enjoying a leisurely drive, no one wants to be caught off guard by road disruptions. The best way to avoid delays is to plan ahead. Before you head out, visit kelowna.ca/roadreport to view the City’s interactive road report map. The map provides real-time traffic impacts from both City-led and private construction projects using data from road usage permits.

As the school season approaches, parents and guardians are encouraged to give themselves extra time and leave early to reduce stress during school pick-up and drop-off routines.

Construction is a temporary inconvenience that brings long-term benefits to our community. These upgrades support growth, improve connectivity, and enhance the overall transportation network.

City projects you might see on your commute this fall include:

Chute Lake Road & Frost Road extension
Work began in 2024 and is expected to wrap up by fall 2025. A full closure of Chute Lake Road between Barnaby Road and South Crest Drive began in August and will last approximately two months. Detour options are available via Lakeshore Road or Barnaby Road. This approach allows crews to complete the work about five weeks faster than if the road remained partially open. Once finished, the project will offer improved access, expanded transportation options, upgraded sidewalks and bike lanes, and reduced congestion on nearby streets.

Glenmore Road widening and sanitary trunk installation
In March, crews began installing a 1.5 km sanitary trunk main between Cross Road and Snowsell Road. This work is being coordinated with the Glenmore Road widening project, which will expand the corridor to four lanes from Union Road to Scenic Road. The sanitary trunk is expected to be completed by October 2025, with the first phase of road widening finishing this winter. Glenmore Road will remain open in both directions, though reduced speeds, detours, and minor closures should be expected.

K.L.O. Road bridge replacement
Construction began in April on the replacement of the aging K.L.O. Bridge, originally built in 1949. The project includes a new roundabout on the east side of the bridge and is expected to be completed by fall 2026. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained during construction, with occasional single-lane alternating traffic and/or night-time work. The Mission Creek Greenway is fully accessible via a short detour at Leader Road.  Reduced speeds and minor delays should be expected.  The new bridge will address safety concerns, improve pedestrian and cycling access, and enhance traffic flow at the intersection of Spiers Road and K.L.O. Road.
