What is the Kelowna Youth Safety Committee?

The Kelowna Youth Safety Committee (KYSC) is a youth-led group made up of students ages 13–17 from across Kelowna.  This committee is the first of its kind and was developed to ensure youth voices are heard  as part of shaping safer communities for all. Committee  members will work alongside the Kelowna RCMP, Fire Services, Bylaw, and Emergency Health Services (EHS)  to  discuss youth safety issues across the City. The KYSC empowers youth to help shape how safety is defined, supported, and delivered in our community.

How It Works

KYSC members meet in person once a month  from October to June 2026 (some hybrid  meeting options will be made available). Session discussion topics will include:

  • Guided discussions on youth safety
  • Presentations/ discussion from emergency services

At the end of the committee's term, youth will present their recommendations to City Council in June 2026.
