Rotary Clubs of Kelowna
With the motto Service Above Self and more than 1.2 million members and 33,000 clubs worldwide, Rotarians are working to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace and eradicate polio.
With nine clubs in Kelowna, including the young people’s Interact and 18 to 30 year old’s Rotaract clubs, more than 350 volunteers clocked 24,000 volunteer hours and raised more than $327,000 for our community.
In the fall of 2009, the Rotary Clubs of Kelowna committed to assist with the International Children’s Winter Games, to be held January 2011, which will include teams from more than 45 countries and be the first Winter Games of this organization ever held outside Europe.
Projects worked on in 2009 ranged from gutting and renovating the basement of a house for the Gospel Mission, to tree planting and installing ramps for disabled horseback riders. They partnered with some 20 different agencies and contributed to nearly 70 causes ranging from NOW Canada to Project Literacy, showing they have what it takes to help change the world.
