Home Businesses

Many types of home businesses are permitted in Kelowna, the Zoning Bylaw outlines the restrictions on home businesses permitted within each zone. Anyone operating a business from their home within city boundaries, if remuneration is received, must obtain an annual Business Licence from the City.

Fees vary according to the business category and range from less than $30 to $3,000.

If clients are coming to the home-based business a floor plan must be submitted at the time of application outlining the building’s square footage. The maximum number of clients permitted in the home at any one time is limited to one or two, depending on the applicable zoning and business classification.

Business licences can be obtained from staff in the Planning and Corporate Services Department on the second floor of City Hall.
