2013 Sarah Donalda-Treadgold Memorial Award Recipient
Woman of the Year
Rose Sexsmith is a Wild Woman. She’s also a Wise Woman and as such, created the Wild Woman Wise Woman foundation so she could raise money for various charities and organizations in Kelowna and beyond.
In 2013, through the Wild Woman Wise Woman events, she helped raise $6000 that was donated to the Wish Come True Society for the development of a Children’s hospice in Kelowna. She often uses her connections with Hannah’s restaurant and Rose’s Waterfront Grill to help other good causes with fundraisers while still finding time to volunteer with organizations such as the Ugly Jacket Golf Tournament and Cops for Kids.
After being recruited as a celebrity dancer with Swinging With the Stars, she sat on their committee last year, which raised a record $226,000 for the Central Okanagan Hospice Association.
Rose created a Public Arts Project concept that she presented to City Hall in 2013, in hopes of it helping to support local charities. She spent countless hours putting this proposal together.
Among the many local organizations she’s helped over the past 40 years in Kelowna include NOW Canada, Elizabeth Fry, Building Healthy Families, Karis Village, Kelowna Women’s Shelter, the Boys and Girls Club and more, earning her the nickname of the Oprah of Kelowna.
