2014 Sarah Donalda-Treadgold Memorial Award Recipient
Woman of the Year
The old saying, “It’s a man’s world” is something Meryle Corbett has worked to eliminate. As a key founder of the Kelowna Chamber of Commerce Women’s Leadership Network, Meryle has made a long term commitment to create a support network for female executives in business and not for profit fields.
As an active contributor within the Faculty of Management Accounting Working Group at UBC Okanagan, Meryle brought experienced views, knowledge and understanding to the table. She helped review curriculum, identify strengths, connect people and develop business program strategies. She was frequently found participating as a panel speaker at events such as the Discovery Career Conference. She has also volunteered as a student mentor at the university since 2007, doing one-on-one mentoring with students and recent graduates.
In 2014, Meryle donated almost 230 hours of volunteer time between the Women’s Leadership Network, UBC Okanagan commitments, fundraising for the KGH Foundation and in other roles such as a director on the CMA Canada National Board and as part of the YLW Advisory Board. Other hours included time spent volunteering at Soup Sisters, doing business introductions and giving resume coaching for 15 new to the Okanagan business leaders and with the Kelowna Flightcraft Foundation.
