GlenGrow

GlengrowLogo

GlenGrow is a soil amendment and top dressing produced by composting yard trimmings collected throughout the Central Okanagan. Effective and environmentally friendly, it’s great for use in landscaping, vegetable gardens and potting mixes. GlenGrow compost returns rich organic matter to the soil and helps retain moisture.

Be sure to pick your GlenGrow up at the Glenmore Landfill.

Preparing your garden for winter

OgogrowPumpkin.jpgPut your garden to bed for a greener spring. A layer of compost will feed your garden all winter and help protect the soil from the elements. Mulch your garden beds with GlenGrow after fall cleanup, and put the worms to work for you. Earthworms will break down the compost and add humus to the soil during the winter months. Be sure to water garden beds well and apply GlenGrow as recommended. The compost layer will help conserve moisture all winter. Top dress your lawn with GlenGrow and over seed for a beautiful lawn next summer.

Fall is a great time to plant trees. When the top of the tree is dormant the root systems develop and become established. Dig a hole the depth of the root ball and twice as wide. Place the tree at the recommended depth and fill the hole with the native soil you dug out amended with 10 to 15% GlenGrow.

GlenGrow tips

New Lawn Seeding
Cover the existing ground with one to two inches of GlenGrow until it is six inches deep. Rake smooth and broadcast seeds as recommended. Use a roller to compact and then keep moist. On sodding, cover GlenGrow with new sod and keep moist.

Established Lawns
Spread 1/4 to 1/2 inch of GlenGrow with a rake in late fall or early spring. Water well after application and for optimum results, aerate after applying.

Flowerbeds and Vegetable Gardens
Mix 2 to 3 inches of GlenGrow with the top 4 to 8 inches of existing soil. Plant flower or sow seeds, then water in. For normal vegetable garden soil, mix 1 inch of GlenGrow with the top 4 inches of soil. For heavier, clay vegetable garden soil, mix 2 inches of GlenGrow with the top 4 inches of existing soil. Sow seeds as recommended.
