Six schools participated in iWalk to School Week October 4-8, 2010
HASTE and DASH BC, along with their partners, invited schools to register for International Walk to School Week, October 4 - 8 2010. Schools across BC took part to promote and celebrate the value of walking. Some walks promote safety, some promote healthier habits and some conserve the environment.
Congratulations to A.S. Matheson, Ecole Glenmore, Rutland, South Rutland and Springvalley Elementary Schools and to KLO Middle School for participating in iWalk to Work Week! Nearly 2000 students participated, challenging each other and raising awareness about the importance of choosing active transportation options to get to school.
Activities included walking competitions between classes and grades, combining walking with other forms of active transportation like cycling, rollerblading and skateboarding, step counting and celebration stations.
Walk Like a Coyote
Casorso Elementary did not participate in iWalk, but they have a monthly walking event at their school called “Walk Like a Coyote to School Day”, where students receive prizes and a coyote stamp as they arrive at school on foot. Most monthly events are themed, and Cody the Coyote is always there to greet the students. The October “Walk Like a Coyote to School Day” was crazy hat day with Big White Ski Resort and the Big White Kangaroo.Casorso Elementary did not participate in iWalk, but they have a monthly walking event at their school called “Walk Like a Coyote to School Day”, where students receive prizes and a coyote stamp as they arrive at school on foot.
