Bike to School Week - May 30 to June 3, 2011
What is Bike to School Week?
Bike to School Week (BTSW) encourages and supports staff, students and parents to try cycling to school during the week of May 30-June 3. Our hope is that those participating will discover the benefits of cycling and use it as a main mode of transportation.
Besides making cycling a daily habit, schools are competing for the highest participation rates and most km cycled. A team leader at your school will distribute classroom results sheets and put up posters around school, and encourage students to participate. Any student that rides their bike at least once (even just one way) during Bike to School Week is eligible for great prizes. Participating students will see how much fun it is to ride to school, and cycling can become the “normal” way for students to get to school.

Winning schools will receive:
ü A new bike
ü Subway for an entire class
ü Energyplex Energy Cube for an entire class
* Plus all schools will have a chance to win one of eight class prizes of Subway for an entire class!
Participating students will also be eligible to win other great prizes, including:
ü Clothing from local cycling shops
ü Cycling accessories
ü Gift certificates
ü Stickers & temporary tattoos
ü Reflectors
ü Tickets to the Kelowna Falcons, Okanagan Sun & Okanagan Challenge
Winning prizes isn’t the only reason to participate. Getting kids to school each day is becoming a big issue throughout BC. More parents are dropping their children off at school than ever before, causing traffic congestion, safety hazards, increased idling and more pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions released into the atmosphere. To alleviate these issues, as well as promoting healthy and active ways for students to get to school, we are encouraging all schools in SD23 to participate in Bike to School Week!
